Mr H’s Tea Shop
Mr H’s Tea Shop at Hawkins is the new place in Hitchin to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee along with delicious locally sourced pastry or cake in the comfortable surroundings of Hitchin’s landmark department store.
Peter Hawkins and his team have worked painstakingly to create what he feels, is a traditional tea shop with a modern twist.
”Hawkins has been at the very heart of the Hitchin community since my great grandfather opened the doors in 1865, and we felt it was important to reflect this local heritage” said Peter.. ” We’re situated within one of Hitchin’s most historic streets just off the Market Square where we wanted to blend with the existing store and surroundings providing a real focal point for the towns day to day coffee and tea culture”.
Indeed this heritage is illustrated ably by rare, mostly unseen historical photographs from the Hawkins archive of the store and environs, displayed prominently on the Tea Shop walls. A true talking point for the historic Hitchin enthusiast or casual visitor. coffee shop at Hawkins
But this is far from just another tea or coffee shop. The aim from day one was to give the customer a really great choice of teas, of which they have six. All served loose leaf in a traditional pot they include Ceylon Broken Orange, a high grown tea from the East of Sri Lanka, Dajeeling FTGFOP which is the second flush tea from the foothills of the Himalayas, Lapsang Souchong, Earl Grey, Peppermint Green which is China Green Gunpowder tea flavoured with Peppermint, and traditional with English Breakfast Tea.
As to be expected there is a superb range of coffees all made from Hawkins own carefully selected and pleasantly familiar blend.
